Tussell's Framework Lot Intelligence: explained

This article explains Tussell's Framework Lot usage data, how to access it in-platform, and how your team can leverage it.

Written by James Piggott

Tussell has done what nobody else has: match call-off contracts to the specific Framework Lot they were awarded under.

This powerful new layer of intelligence, exclusive to Tussell, means you can see which individual Lots are driving contracts and spending on a framework.

This quick article walks you through everything you need to know about this exciting new dataset, and how your business can start leveraging it. Skip ahead to read about:

A recap: what are Framework Lots?

When a call-off contract is awarded via a framework agreement, it's typically awarded via one of the agreements 'Lots'.

A Lot of a subdivision of a framework, covering a particular facet of that agreement's delivery.

A Lot may, for example, cover a particular group of products or services under the agreement (e.g. Fire Alarms under a 'Fire Safety' framework), a geographic region (e.g. delivery in the North East of England), or contract value (e.g. any contracts worth over £10 million p/a)

When applying for a framework, you typically apply to join one or several Lots on an agreement. Knowing which Lots offer the most potential for your business, therefore, is key if you want to avoid wasting time on fruitless frameworks.

That's where Tussell's Framework Lot Intelligence comes in. We've done the hard work of tying call-off contracts to the specific Lot they were awarded under. For the first time, we're empowering suppliers to understand the quantity, value and types of procurements going through individual Lots - not just the broader framework.

How do I access Framework Lot insights?

Head to a Framework's notice page on Tussell.

If we've been able to break down a framework by its constituent Lots, you'll see these listed under the 'Lots' tab.

From there, you'll be able to see all of the Lots listed on that framework. If call-offs have been tagged against those specific Lots, you'll see the value and volume of them marked against each Lot. To dig into these call-offs, click 'View call-offs'.

If we've matched a call-off to its original Lot, this will also be noted on the contract's notice page:

Framework Lot data is currently not included within typical data downloads - but can be streamed into your systems via Tussell's API. To learn about how to gain access to the API, speak with your Account Manager.

What can I use Lot intelligence to do?

This new layer of framework intelligence means you & your business can:

Identify high-value Lots

Just because a Lot is advertised on a framework doesn't mean it actually gets used.

Instead of guessing which Lots are worth applying for, use Lot Intelligence to see which ones have historically been used to award relevant contracts in your niche. This could be based on the value, volume or type of call-offs awarded under the Lot, or based on which accounts or suppliers are using it.

The next time that framework comes to market, you'll know exactly which Lots offer the most potential for your business - and which to avoid.

Understand what Lots are really used for

Although Lots are intended to be used for one thing, that doesn't mean they always are.

On occasion, buyers can - intentionally or not - award a contract via a Lot which may have little to do with its advertised purpose.

With Lot-level analysis, you can see which specific contracts are awarded via Lots, helping you understand the real nature of contracts awarded through them.

Use this intelligence to move beyond taking Lots at face value, and instead prioritise the ones which are actually used to award work in your market.

Find potential Lot partners

Just because you're not on a Lot doesn't mean you're locked out of its opportunities.

You can use Lot intelligence to see which suppliers are winning work through a given agreement. From there, you can approach the supplier as a potential delivery partner on future work they secure.

What data is covered under Lot Intelligence?

Like all of the data in Tussell, our Lot data coverage isn't static.

Our data team is matching more and more call-offs to Lots every day. We're prioritising live and historic agreements we know our customers care most about.

We match call-offs to Lots based using a number of indicators, ranging from the Lot being listed in the contract description, to FOI'ing buyers for further information.

In other words: the Lot usage data you see in Tussell is not exhaustive. The total value and volume of call-offs we've attributed to a given Lot represents what our team have matched thus far, and is subject to change.
